Bottled Water Snobs Unite!
I have to admit to you all that I am a bit of a bottled water snob. OK so that may be a bit of a harsh statement, but I refuse to buy anything, but evian. Hmm you say, that sounds elitest. Well, I prefer the taste of evian to any other bottled water. In fact, some "bottled water" isn't really natural, but just tap water bottled "on-site". Many people have told me that there is no difference in taste and I will have to dispute that claim.... I can tell the difference between taste's of water. In fact, I demonstrated this in a taste test once and picked out evian from two other choices (tap water and another bottled water brand). Sounds like I am quite talented, right? OK before I get a big head I want to point out that all water has different tastes. Evian has a softer, sweeter taste than most water... I know that sounds weird, but that is the best way to describe it. Any other water snobs out there?

I completely agree that water tastes differently. I think that Aquafina is the most disgusting bottled water on the market. Evian does taste sweet, but since I'm a poor college student, I must make do with Dasani (which has a good flavor to it).

OK.. I will accept that answer. Evian is more expensive (ever heard the joke "evian" is naive backwards?). Although, in the scheme of things I don't mind about the price that much, but I probably would have thought differently while in college too...

That's interesting. I actually can't stand Dasani and don't mind Aquafina at all. (Although, here at my university Aquafina is the only bottled water that the sell at the campus center. So maybe after four years I've just gotten used to it?)
I too like Evian, although I've noticed it doesn't seem to taste it's best when it's consumed with food. That may sound wierd, but that's what I think. I like the taste of it completely on its own.
Try SmartWater though. It's become my new favorite by far. It tastes like nothing...in a good way. Really, really clean. And it's got added electrolytes and stuff.

Andrea-
I think I still like evian by itself, but I'll let you have it with food. :-) Now I will have to try smartwater.. sounds interesting...

Haha. Excellent. Except I was agreeing with you on the "it tastes better by itself" part. ;-)

Yes! Try it! Let me know what you think.

Sorry for the late post, but I felt I had to contribute since I, too, have done this test :-)

Here are the water brands I sampled:

--Aquafina
--Dasani
--Kroger brand (Don't laugh. It was better than some!)
--Evian
--Volvic
--Fuji
--Penta
--Ozarka
--Voss

I found that you couldn’t just compare them without first separating the "natural spring" water from the "purified" water. Natural spring water will "always" carry with it certain distinctive flavors found only in that particular spring. I generally don't care for spring water, but Fuji water is very good, even though it has a slight taste.

Aquafina, as Kim mentioned, was horrible. I don't know if I got a bad bottle or what, but it actually tasted sour to me.

The bottle of Volvic I tried, tasted like plastic. I think the bottle had been sitting too long on the shelf. Volvic is NOT cheap.

Evian was "ok", but not in my top three.

The most "flavor neutral" brand was Penta. It boasts a very refined filtration process and you can tell. It is pure goodness, but VERY expensive.

In the end, I made my final decision based on taste as well as cost. The best one, I found, that both tasted acceptable and didn't cost a fortune, was....

Dasani. Its only weak point is that it has a slight sweetness to it. I think it has something to do with the mineral content.

Hope you enjoyed my thoroughly boring essay. Now, for some reason, I'm thirsty!

Mmm... Neil. Interesting findings. I think that I will have to try Dasani and Penta which I have actually never heard of. That is funny I was having the discussion of the spring water vs. purified water recently. I don't have a huge preference either way on that. I am impressed that you did such an extensive test. :-)
