My take on the VMA's
I just saw the MTV Video Music Awards the other week. I have to say that I get quite irritated at the show they put on. It reflects the state of MTV and mainstream music these days. I know there is good music out there, but apparently they are going for the mainstream music audience. I know I am biased towards the rock, but I think both MTV and VMA's seem to play much more of the top 40 hip hop and rap on their programming. I have nothing against these styles (since there are actually good underground movements of both), but I don't think they accurately represent the cross section of music people listen to. Then again I don't watch MTV much except for one show called Subterranean where they actually play music videos and underground rock music. Anyway, I even thought Jack Black wasn't as funny as he could be as the host for the VMA's. I really enjoyed him in his latest movie Nacho Libre, but I didn't think he really did well as the VMA host. The high points of the VMA for me were seeing the Raconteurs (Jack White and Brendon Benson's new collaborative band) as house band and the band "OK Go" perform their latest song "Here It Goes Again" live while running on moving treadmills... If you haven't seen it their music video which performs the same song is on You Tube. It is pretty cool - check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pv5zWaTEVkI
