Tribeca Film Festival
So a last minute opportunity allowed me to attend a "world wide premiere" of the movie "Blue State" at the Tribeca Film Festival in NYC today. The film stars Breckin Meyer and Anna Paquin. I was excited to see an "independent film" release. The movie was basically about a Democratic campaigner for John Kerry in the 2004 election who becomes frustrated after the election loss and decides to head up to Canada to relocate. His trip along the way with a new companion makes up most of the movie. Their adventures were interesting and thought provoking. The movie was mostly a story of a journey of two people physically and emotionally. In addition to that, I thought it speaks to the fact that political stereotypes are somewhat of an oversimplification. Most people are more complex in how their views are shaped - like life circumstances and such. The question and answer session with the director, Marshall Lewy, afterwards was interesting too. This film was his project for his thesis at Columbia and he hopes the film will interest some distributors for wider viewing. Overall, I thought the movie was well done with some good music and thoughtful topics. It makes you think about issues and not just state them. Also, the acting was good as well. Hopefully, you will all get to see it sometime soon in the theaters....
