Siren Music Festival 2007
So once again I trekked over to Coney Island in Brooklyn for the annual Siren Music Festival. The free festival features a lot of up and coming bands that are scouring the underground (for the most part). I had a chance this year of going with some friends who drove! Yeah! It was a lot easier than the long trek on the subway over there.... There was a few good bands who played - two of which I saw in the spring - Matt and Kim & Voxtrot. Both were really good and it was fun to see them again. I was struck once again by the ever cheerful Matt and Kim! They are happy perhaps more than most people. It was definitely a crowd favorite. Imagine crowd surfing and stage diving with the soundtrack of happy indie pop. It was fun and just made you smile. Their concert in the spring was just as fun. Voxtrot was a usual favorite of mine too. I think I enjoyed this performance a little better without their "string section" that was at their spring concert. The one band that I have to stay stole the day for me was a new band that I am thoroughly enjoying now called "White Rabbits" that playing as the 1st band at 1PM or so at the Stillwell stage. I wasn't expecting too much , but I was taken for a wonderful ride. The band had two drums that was used in most of the songs. In addition, their stage presence was wonderful. They were excellent in concert and I would recommend you all to see them. Pick up their CD too if you get a chance. I have to admit my friend told me about these guys first - good pick! On the downside, I was expecting a little more of the band Lavender Diamond. I am not one to bad mouth a band, but they just didn't seem to be together at all. Between the disconnect between the band and the lead singer, the lead singers out of tune singing, and the lead singers talking about nothing for way too long (trying to sound important) - it just wasn't great. Maybe, we just caught them on a bad day, who knows... Anyway, this year I got my Nathan's Coney Island hotdog! Yeah! I stood in line for a good 15 minutes for it, but I did it! Cool.. Anyway, here are 3 pics from the festival.... The first one is a closeup of Matt and Kim, the second is me, and the last is Voxtrot (they are kinda far away I know). Enjoy!
