Vampire Weekend
Well, I know it is has been forever since I have posted something. It is pretty crazy that it has been so long... So you ask- What is new? Vampire Weekend! This is an awesome band I found out about last month. They met while attending Columbia University. They describe their sound as Upper West Side Soweto as their sound has african influences. While the beats may resemble African or ska rhythmns they also have their sound primarily in underground rock. They currently have a series of EP's out, but after their recent signing with XL recordings they are releasing their new self-titled CD out at the end of January 2008. Probably the most notable thing about their look that most people take note of is the band's preppy style. I am not sure if them being an ivy league underground band makes this acceptable, but who cares.. Perhaps soon everyone will be wearing dockers, khakis, button down shirt with sunglasses.. And while your on the ivy league kick make sure to check out another up and coming band from Harvard called Chester French.. Great music too - only available now on their my space page. Anyway, make sure to check out Vampire Weekend in concert next year.. I'll be checking them out here in NYC on their CD release weekend!
